Hi everyone,
Initial Overdrive audio files (ie, the download packet that opens in the Overdrive Media Console) have .odm as their extension. It appears .odm is also the file extension for a type of word processing document called Open Document Master Document. There appears to be various Open Office or Word-knockoff software that reads this file extension; if a patron has that software on their computer, the computer apparently assumes the download packet IS a word processing document, and will not trigger the OMC to open.
There are a couple of fixes. The easiest is to save (or move) the download packet to the desktop and then drag it over the icon for the OMC. This will automatically trigger the OMC to open. You can also right-click with the mouse and select "Open With," and choose the OMC. This should teach the computer your preference, but it may not always work.
Not sure how prevalent this problem might be--probably not very--but I thought I'd pass along the info.
