I was able to work with a patron and his Dell Venue 8 tablet, which is pretty new to the market and runs Windows 8.1 for its operating system (similar to the Surface tablet). There are several things to know about these devices (and the Surface tablet) if you haven't helped people with them. This was my first experience with one, but if they become popular I suppose we'll see more of them. 1. Apps come from the Windows App store. Right now, only Overdrive and Zinio are in the app store. 2. This does not mean patrons with these devices can only run Overdrive and Zinio. Because the device functions almost like a mini-laptop, they can install the PC App for 3M, and the One Click Digital software for PC. 3. Overdrive looks and acts significantly different on these tablets than they do on Droid/IOS devices. I've searched around for good screen shots and instructions, and one of the better ones is at: www.sclibrary.ab.ca/docs/ebooks/windows8RT.pdfI suggest having this PDF printed out if you find yourself working with Overdrive on Windows-based devices. Things we're used to finding on the Droid/iOS versions simply aren't there, and you locate certain options by casually swiping from left to right, etc, in a (to me) non-intuitive process of discovery. Hope this helps! Sean
