I want to share an anecdote that happened while working with a patron who only uses the Kindle reading app for PC/Mac. The patron had selected one of the "USB Only"-restricted titles. Unfortunately, it turns out Amazon won't acknowledge the computer reading app as being a transferable device, and they won't even be allowed to download the book.
I haven't helped many people who are just using the Kindle reading app, so I was surprised by this. Exploring further, I find Amazon makes this note:
"Due to publisher restrictions, some titles may not be wirelessly delivered and require USB transfer from your computer to your device. These restricted titles also may not be accessed on Kindle reading applications."
These seems strikingly dumb to me, but there's nothing to be done about it. I don't think we get many patrons in this situation, but if we do the easiest workaround is just to have them return to their Overdrive account, go to the Bookshelf and click on the Overdrive Read ("Read in your Browser") option on the book they're wanting to read.
