We had a patron with a Nook tablet in yesterday, and she was able to get the zinio app installed. All prior information told us B&N was blocking zinio on the Nooks.
It turned out her tablet used the Google Play market to get apps. The Google Play market allowed her to install zinio. She could not, however, use the Nook's browser to actually checkout magazines through the library website. I'm uncertain if this is because the Nook was blocking the page, or if the Nook's browser just isn't sophisticated enough to load the page. Even on staff computers, zinio will tell us we need to upgrade to IE9 in order to proceed.
The patron was able to select magazines just by going to the library's website on a computer, however, and her selections showed in her app. So she was able to use Zinio on her Nook.
It might be that all new Nook Colors and Nook Tablets are using the Google Play market, in which case they can install the zinio app. To the best of my knowledge, first generation versions of the Nook Color can only access the B&N app store, which still does not carry zinio.

Hmmmm.....okay, lots to process here. I will try to see what I can get on the Nook Color and report back. Maybe since Nooks are not being made by B&N anymore they are going to be using Google Play store to purchase apps for Nook devices? Again, I will see what I can find and report back. Thanks for the info Sean. No two devices could be the same, huh?

Okay, all I have to play with is the Nook Color Tablet and it does not offer the Zinio app for download as you guessed correctly that is it not in the B&N store. So I go thru the browser to our library website and attempt to check out a magazine to see what will happen. I choose a magazine and apon checkout it directs me to the google play store online and prompts me to download the app, but the install button seems to be disabled. When I use the back button to just get back to the checkout screen I get a message that says that this site does not have a trustworthy certificate, I click to continue anyway and the magazine checks out to my account okay and then shows up on my iPad. So for some reason, I can't get the app (I am going to try again) on the Nook Color, but its browser will let me check out the magazine and lets me reader in the browser.......So it is workable just through the browser on the Nook Color. I sure do wish I had a Nook tablet to play with to see what the issue is there. I wonder if checking the magazin out on a computer would then send it to the Nook tablet and allow the user to view it that way.........
