I found out that the different between the Open files and "locked" files: "These books are the same format as our other EPUB ebooks, however they do not have any Digital Rights Management (DRM) included. What this means is that not only can you read these ebooks through Adobe Digital Editions or the OverDrive Media Console (for mobile devices), but you can transfer them to the EPUB reader software of your choice."
Now I could not find anywhere that said that the books stay on the devices for ever and do not expire as is a commonly held thought, but I will test this out and see what happens. But even from this description, I am not sure the difference is clear because in the locked ePub format, one can still use them on most all readers.....again, I will test it and see what happens.
